Introduction to Buddhism Workshops

In this 3-Saturday intensive course, we will explore the Buddhism as a spiritual path and system of philosophical thought. Each class will build upon the discussions of the previous weeks offering participants insight into the history and precepts of Buddhism, as well as ways to bring Buddhist practice and philosophy into daily life. This is a course designed for those looking for an introduction to Buddhism but will welcome more experienced practitioners who wish to revisit the fundamentals of Buddhist philosophy and its traditions.
Topics that will be covered include: The First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma: The Theravada Path, The Four Noble Truths, Karma, The Second Turning of the Wheel of Dharma: The Mahayana Path, Bodhicitta, Emptiness, Conventional and Absolute Reality, The Third Turning of the Wheel of Dharma: Vajrayana-The Buddhism of the Himalayas, Mandalas, Mantras and much more.
WHEN: This course will run on successive Saturdays, May 6,13, 20th from 11am to 2:15pm.
WHERE: The Chenrezig Tibetan Buddhist Center is located at 954 North Marshall Street, just South of Girard Avenue in Philadelphia. There is on-street parking nearby and a parking lot behind the Cebter. The Center can also be reached by public transportation by Market-Frankford subway to Girard Station, it's about a 10 minute walk from there. Or, the 47 bus runs north on 7th street from Center City Philadelphia.
REGISTRATION: detailed overview of the course will be given at the first meeting on May 6th. It is strongly suggested that participants commit to the full course. However, for those unable to make all sessions, drop-in attendance will be available.
Tution for the complete course is $125, or $50 for drop-in to individual sessions. Payment may be made on the first day of class, or by sending a check payable to "Tibetan Buddhist Center" c/o Floyd Platton 303 Queen Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147.
